Schools and Colleges

Banavie Primary School is the only Primary School in the Kilmallie area.

Lochaber High School is in the Kilmallie area and serves all of Fort William and much of Lochaber.

West Highland College UHI (formerly Lochaber College) is in Fort William (01397 874000)

Pre-school

Kilmallie Playgroup provides pre-school education for 2½ to 4 year olds.

Kilmallie Parent and Toddlers meet weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Kilmallie Hall for an informal get-together.

Libraries and Archives

Our nearest library is in Glenkingie Street in Caol (01397 702829).

There is also the main library in Fort William at Airds Crossing (01397 703552).

Fort William’s mobile library service (07799 133916) visits Banavie Primary School every 3rd Monday in term time, and visits Guiseach Terrace, Corpach and Fassfern every 3rd Thursday.

The Lochaber Archive Centre, in the West Highland College in Fort William holds local historical documents and records for public availability.   Amongst many other things they keep copies of all Community Council minutes, and they have paper copies of all our Newsletters.

Stuff for kids

There are two children’s playgrounds in Kilmallie, one off Drumfada Terrace in Corpach, and one at the canal carpark at Banavie.

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet in the Corpach Scout Hall on a weekly basis.

Groups, clubs and associations

Kilmallie Singers were founded in 1970 as a church choir, but are now a community choir with over 60 members. They rehearse in Kilmallie Church Hall which is in Caol (not Kilmallie!).

The Lochaber Natural History Society promotes interest in our local natural environment, and organises occasional lectures.

Lochaber Showstoppers are our local amateur dramatic society.

Sports, fitness and outdoor activities

Our nearest public swimming pool, fitness suite and exercise studio is at Lochaber Leisure Centre in Fort William.

Lochaber Rugby Club have their playing field and clubhouse in Banavie, and also organise a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display each year for the community, in aid of charity, usually the Saturday nearest Guy Fawkes night.

The Lochaber Street League, football for kids aged 7-16, plays at Claggan.

Garrison Bowmen, for target and field archery, meet at Lochaber High School.

The Kilmallie Shinty Club play at Canal Parks, Caol.
