Mountain bothy in Gleann Dubh Lighe destroyed by fire

Fire has destroyed the single storey stone and slate mountain bothy in Gleann Dubh Lighe, right on the western boundary of Kilmallie.  Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, who were called to the scene early in the morning, said the shelter was completely destroyed.   Two fire engines and a portable pump were used to fight the blaze.

The building had been one of the Mountain Bothies Association’s (MBA’s) shelters.   Using volunteer work-parties, the MBA maintain and repair remote disused buildings as unlocked refuges for walkers and others.   Keep watching the MBA’s Gleann Dubh-Lighe webpage for updates about possible re-building.
