Kilmallie Community Fridge and Cupboard

The Community Fridge and Cupboard (open daily 8.30am to 5pm) launched on 15th August this year and follows from the Kilmallie Community Cupboard which was set up during Covid last year. The volunteers saw a need to continue post-Covid and the solution was to set up as a Community Fridge under the Foodshare and Fareshare schemes which allow us to access items from supermarkets etc. that are surplus or would otherwise go to waste.

We contacted Hubbub and joined the Community Fridge network, who in partnership with the CoOp, gave us a start-up grant. We now have a commercial fridge and freezer and a set of shelves within Kilmallie Community Centre foyer, where we access Foodshare from the Co Op in Corpach, and Foodshare & Fareshare through Caol Community Centre, thanks to other local supermarkets.

The fridge gives access to all as it is primarily about reducing food waste and will hopefully help families stretch their budget and reduce their food bills. We can take items that are past their best before date that are still fit to eat, as well as surplus items that might otherwise be wasted.

While the Community Centre is open 7 days a week, the freezer is accessed by volunteers only so please check Facebook for its opening times:

If you would like to donate towards upkeep costs, volunteer or would just like further information, please get in touch!
